Happy New Year! I think this post will say it was published on the 2nd, but I swear it’s still the 1st as I type this. Busy vacation, you know.
I love New Years. I love looking back over my year and looking ahead to what’s in store for the next year. I love making resolutions and writing them in my journal, I love watching the ball drop at midnight and sipping sparkling cider. A good time to let go of the past and take the lessons you’ve learned and work for a better year.
In 2012 I:
Finished writing a novel. Twice! No, three times! Yay for me! That is honestly one of the most incredible journeys I’ve taken in my life and it’s been a blast. Hard and time consuming but so much fun. I’m really proud of what I’ve written and my dedication to it this year. It’s been a good year for writing.
Stayed up late watching Terry do homework. A lot.
Got a job! And then quit that one and started a new one! The new one is much much better. I especially like that I can work from home.
Home is a happy place for me.
Turned the old entertainment center into something new (details coming soon).
Joined a buying club for organic produce. I’ve been super happy with it.
Started a sequel to my first novel. Still in the works.
Spent a week at a beach house with my in-laws. Crashed on my first turn on the surfboard and had a hurt knee for weeks.
Made a lot of really good food.
Went mountain biking sans mountain. It makes for an easier ride but you don’t get the thrill of going downhill and the challenge of going up.
Started a blog. Is it working???
Went to girls camp, this time as one of the peeps in charge. So much better that way. Then I can boss around the young girls. Ha.
Watched my little sister get married.
Read about a billion books. Some of them super awesome. The non-super-awesome ones I just stopped, cuz why waste my time? And some of them ridiculously awesome and I will read over and over and over (I’m looking at you, Pat Rothfuss).
Let a few people read my book for the first time. Scary but turned out pretty well.
Joined a writing group.
Used my inhaler more than I ever have before.
Went to a lot of art shows. Um, cuz . . . they’re free. And . . . there’s a reason they’re free. Ha. Just kidding. They’re fun, but they were all pretty small. We saw the same guy selling rocks like half a dozen times at least. Way to follow your dream, man.
And watched a whole bunch of movies while cuddling with Terry. The best.
This next year should be a fun one, as all years are in their own way. I’m looking at this next year as an adventure because I honestly have no idea what’s in store for us. We anticipate a move this summer but have no idea where we’ll end up or what either of us will be doing. I have about the next six months planned out and after that, there’s just darkness.
And my goal as far as writing goes is to start querying agents sometime this year. That’s just about the scariest thing I can imagine. If any of you are secretly literary agents looking to acquire an awesome epic fantasy, you know where to find me.
So here’s to the year ahead and the times we’ve had up to now! Good, bad, and in-between!
I loved reading this awesome post! You are such a light and inspiration to all who know you, Caitlin! I’m proud of you for all you’ve accomplished this last year, and all that I know you WILL accomplish this year!
